Description
The botanical name for Cassiopeia is Fuchsia paniculata. Originally the
plant originates from Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
Cassiopeia is a beautiful
small bush with large leaves, which in itself are very fresh and decorative
in pitchers, window boxes or planted in the garden. The plant starts with
clusters of buds in the shoot tips. The buds have a very intense colour.
Subsequently the many star shaped flowers in pastel red shades are formed.
Below each flower a decorative small red berry is formed. At the end of the
year the berries change colour to dark blue. On a plant with a good growth
there will often be both shoots with new red buds, shiny open flowers and
shoots with decorative berries at the same time.
The plant should be placed under light conditions,
and should be watered and fertilized regularly. Extra fertilizer gives a
very vigorous plant with fine large and glossy leaves which last far into
late autumn.
The plant can stand light night frost, but does not normally
survive a Danish winter.
